Biography
Fabio Di Francesco is currently full professor in analytical chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Pisa where he leads the Chemistry Lab for Analytical Technologies (CATS). After his PhD (2000) at the Research Center "E.Piaggio" - University of Pisa, concerning the development of multisensor systems for environmental and food applications, he spent six years at the Institute of Clinical Physiology – CNR Pisa, where he further extended his research on sensors to the biomedical field. Since 2006, he is at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Pisa where he develops sensors and analytical procedures for biomedical applications, environmental protection and food safety.
Education
Ph.D., Bioengineering, Universita' di Pisa, 2000
Specialization in Industrial Protection and Safety 1996
M.S., Physics, Universita' di Pisa, 1994
Research interests
Fabio Di Francesco’s research interests are at the interface of analytical technologies, nanomaterials and medicine, with an emphasis on the identification, in easily accessible body fluids (breath, oral fluid, sweat …), of chemical markers with clinical interest and the development of low cost technologies for the translation of research results into the clinical practice and everyday life. More recently, he got involved again in projects concerning environmental protection and food safety.
